Oct. 31 Class

Today we did more word problems with right angle triangles.

Handout: Problems with Right Triangles

Here are some of the solutions,

Make sure that you understand how to solve for any side or angle in a right angle triangle.

New Unit: Trigonometry!

Here is the daily plan for the new unit and a worksheet for today,

Handout: Unit 5 Daily Plan

Handout: Introduction to Trigonometry Worksheet

We discussed about right angle triangles, reviewed Pythagorean theorem and reviewed SOH CAH TOA.  Here are the notes and some solutions to the first worksheet.

Oct. 29 Class

Congratulations on completing the forth Unit Test!  We are now done with quadratics, but don't forget any of it because they will appear on a performance task and final exam.

Oct. 26 Class

Today was a work period for you to ask questions and to study.  Here are some details about what to expect on the test.

Unit Test Details

Very similar in format to the previous test in length.

When a quadratic function is in vertex form, be able to…
  - Find the vertex.
  - Equation of the axis of symmetry.
  - Maximum or minimum value.
  - Domain and Range.
  - Number of zeroes.
  - Expand to standard form.

When a quadratic function is in standard form, be able to…
  - Re-write it in vertex form (completing the square).
  - Determine the number of zeroes.
  - Solve using the quadratic formula.

Solve word problems involving quadratic functions.
  - Identify the variables.
  - Determine what values needed to be solved for.  (Vertex or zeroes?)
  - Pick a strategy (quadratic formula, completing the square?)

Determine the equation of a given graph in vertex form.

Determine an equation of a graph from data and use it to predict values.

Here's some brief notes on determining the number of zeroes:

Today was a work period for you to study for your test next week.  Here are some of the questions you should be working on:

P. 254 # 1-12
P. 256 # 1-10

Good luck in your studies, we will do review tomorrow.

Oct. 24 Class

After a bit of answering questions from previous days, I discussed how to write quadratic equations from a graph of data.  The process is very similar to what we did in the last unit, only this time we started from vertex form rather than factored form.

Here are the notes:

Homework: Complete the handout, p. 250 #3-5, 7-10, 12

This essentially covers the material for the test on Monday!  Now all we have left is review and test preparation.

Oct. 23 Class

Today I handed back the formative quiz and went over the solutions.  Here are the solutions:

Then we started discussing word problems.  Here is the handout:

Handout: Solving word problems

And here are the full solutions.

In addition to the questions on the back of the handout, there are some textbook questions to try:
