Then we played a game where we dropped cards on the table. People with face up cards stayed in the game. People with face down cards were eliminated. We graphed the number of people left and got the following:
After paying the game twice, we got essentially the same graph... why?
Then I told the story of a man who asks the Emperor for rice. The man asked for a chess board and 1 grain of rice on the first square. On each square he asked to double it, by the time the board was half full, the Emperor had run out of rice, and there were many more squares to go! We graphed it and examined the shape of the graph.
These two graphs are examples of exponential graphs.
We then graphed a function with x in the exponent and examined features of that graph. This is the base graph that we will study in the coming days.
